Shelburne/Hinesburg Road, Shelburne

This Shelburne, Vermont home integrates the natural beauty and views of the site while maximizing natural light and energy efficiency into an innovative, customized design which accentuates its landscape rather than overwhelming it. Throughout the building process we tried to eliminate waste and recycle products as much as possible. We used local subcontractors who incorporated local products such as stone, tile, and hardwood wherever possible. We used low VOC paints and glues throughout the interior of the house, and used zero formaldehyde plywood and MDF products for our built-in’s and custom cabinetry. The carpets and pads are all made of natural fibers. We chose standing seam metal roofing for it’s unparalleled longevity, natural stone for it’s beauty and toughness, and local oak flooring for it’s durability. The design reflects a farmhouse built over time with its strong rooflines and multiple facades. The use of vertical barn board on the garage creates a separate “barn” feel reminiscent of when the farmhouse was attached to the barn.
